About This Call
The Office of Arts & Culture (ARTS) is seeking artists pre-qualified through the Artist Rosters (Emerging Artist, Ethnic Heritage, and Public Art Boot Camp participants) to develop temporary artworks for the 2015 Art Interruptions in the Central Area neighborhood. Only artists pre-qualified through these rosters are eligible to apply.
Selected artists will design and develop small-scale temporary artworks to be installed on city-owned street furniture and infrastructure (signal boxes, utility poles, railings, sidewalks, street trees, tree pits, etc.) for four months from August 24, 2015 through January 3, 2016 in the Central Area neighborhood. Artworks should draw attention through surprise, contemplation, beauty or humor, and enliven the pedestrian experience. Artworks must not damage city property, obscure signage, or be easily stolen or vandalized. Proposed artwork locations include the Central Area Greenway on 22nd Ave E. between E. John Street and E. Columbia St., and 25th Ave E. between E. and S. Jackson.
Applicants must submit a concept proposal (not to exceed 2,000 characters), eight images of past artworks, a letter of interest (not to exceed 2,000 characters), resume, and references by 11:59 p.m. MDT on May 21, 2015. Selection notification will occur by mid-June 2015. Each selected artist will receive a $4,000 commission fee, paid as 40% upon acceptance of final artwork proposal, 40% after documented installation, and 20% after documented de-installation and project summary. Installation will occur August 31-September 3, 2015. For questions, contact Marcia Iwasaki at [email protected] or 206.233.3946.
