About This Call

The Office of Arts & Culture, in partnership with Seattle Public Utilities, is seeking an artist to design, fabricate and install a site-specific artwork for the new 12th and Elmgrove Park in the South Park neighborhood. This call is an invitational to artists living in the South Park neighborhood and ARTS' Emerging and Boot Camp Rosters. The selected artist will work with the Office of Arts & Culture, Seattle Public Utilities, landscape architects from Tomas Rengstorf & Associates, community representatives, and project staff during the design phase through construction.

The 12th and Elmgrove Park will feature native plantings, seating, a permanent outdoor artwork, and views of the Duwamish River. The artist will develop artwork that considers the function and size of the park and enhances the scenic nature of the site. Artwork features should be durable and require minimal maintenance. The selected artist will receive a commission of $41,058.39 (plus Washington State Sales/Use Tax of $3,941.61) equaling $45,000.00 to design, fabricate and install the artwork.

Eligibility is limited to artists living or working in the South Park neighborhood and ARTS' Emerging and Boot Camp Rosters. Students are not eligible. Application requirements include a letter of interest (not to exceed 2,000 characters) explaining your relationship to the neighborhood and the Duwamish River, resume, three references, and up to 16 images. A panel of arts professionals, client representatives and community members will review applications in early May 2016. Applicants will be notified of the panel's decision by email in late May 2016. Contact Elisheba Johnson at [email protected] or 206-684-0182 for questions.
