About This Call
The City of Santa Rosa Public Art Program is calling for up to 10 temporary art installations for the 2025-2027 Santa Rosa Public Art Walk, themed "Urban Renewal." This initiative aims to transform downtown Santa Rosa into a vibrant, open-air gallery that celebrates creativity and connects cultural hubs from downtown to Railroad Square.
Eligibility is open to artists or artist teams residing or working in the United States, age 18 and older. All submissions must be of previously completed artworks; proposals for yet-to-be-created art will not be accepted. Each selected artist receives an honorarium of $5,000 to cover all costs for the 2-year duration, including installation, deinstallation, and insurance. Artists are responsible for installation and deinstallation of their artwork. Artworks are generally secured to concrete pads, though alternative mounting methods may be used with detailed descriptions for approval. Depending on artwork, stamped engineering drawings may be required.
Submissions must include up to 6 artworks with 3 views each (18 images maximum), an image list with title, date, medium, dimensions, and weight, a 150-word maximum statement explaining how the work reflects the "Urban Renewal" theme, a detailed art installation plan including size, weight, installation method, and hardware specifications, and an artist resume. A jury panel of art professionals will evaluate submissions based on artistic merit, thematic relevance, innovation, feasibility, and overall contribution to the exhibition's diversity and impact. Finalists and alternates will be notified by May 30, 2025, with installation scheduled for September-October 2025 and deinstallation for August-September 2027.
