About This Call
The City of Santa Clarita is seeking an original, site-specific artwork to be permanently located at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex, on a wall adjacent to the newly built indoor Roller Rink facility.
Up to five semi-finalists will be selected and paid $1,000 to create and present a formal proposal. The all-inclusive budget for the project is $80,000. Artists 18 years of age or older with a US mailing address are eligible to submit individual or collaborative applications. At least one image submission must be an existing public artwork completed by the artist. Work sample requirements: 5-10 images and 0-3 videos (5-10 total samples).
Design guidelines: The artwork concept should have fluidity, dynamism, and movement. Artwork must be an original design suitable for viewing by all ages and can be of any medium. Maximum dimensions: 200 feet wide, 15 feet in height, 4 inches depth. Maximum weight: 40 pounds per square foot. The artist is responsible for all design, fabrication, transportation, installation, and associated expenses. Installation must follow engineered plans with City supervision and approval. The artist must provide installation instructions and a maintenance guide. Insurance coverage is required for the installation period only. If a protective coating is deemed necessary for environmental or vandalism concerns, this must be covered by the artist. Power is not available onsite; if required, a solar component is suggested. Artwork must be anchored to prevent removal, tipping, breaking, or overturning due to wind or earthquake. The artist is responsible for coordinating a qualified Deputy Welding Inspector for site welds during installation.
