About This Call
The City of Santa Clarita is seeking artists to create original, site-specific artwork for installation on a median just outside Central Park in the Saugus community. The artwork will be visible to motorists traveling on Bouquet Canyon Road and to those attending sporting events and the City's Annual "Concerts in the Park" events.
Artists will have a space 10 feet wide and 100 feet long. The artwork must be fabricated in durable, low-maintenance materials that will withstand Santa Clarita's climate and complement the City's aesthetic in style, scale, and medium. Artists are encouraged to use all types of materials including stone, metal, and wood. The project is open to all artists age 18 and over, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, military status, sexual orientation, marital status, or physical or mental disability.
A budget of $13,250.00 must cover all associated costs including design, fabrication, materials, labor, transportation, insurance, consulting fees, installation, permit fees, per diem, and taxes. The selection process includes a proposal phase: three finalists will be selected by October 8, 2010, and will each receive a $500 stipend. Finalists must submit detailed conceptual design proposals by November 5, 2010, including to-scale renderings, material descriptions, timeline, budget, and a written narrative describing the concept and intent. The final artist(s) will be selected by November 18, 2010, with completed artwork installed in Spring 2011.
