About This Call
The City of Rancho Cucamonga is issuing a Request for Qualifications from artists or artist teams to design and install mini mural projects on select cement directional markers along the Pacific Electric Trail in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. The mini murals will be located at key intersections along the trail and visible to vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic. Project goals include enhancing the route's aesthetic appeal, promoting local artists, and providing community engagement opportunities. These murals will support the RC Public Art Plan and establish the City's art mural program.
The Pacific Electric Trail is a 21-mile free public access trail spanning from Claremont to Rialto, with approximately 8 miles in Rancho Cucamonga. The trail was developed as a Rails-to-Trails project and serves as a vital recreation corridor. The Mini Mural Project scope includes designing and painting two sides of directional markers (approximately 18" wide by 36" tall) and the top (approximately 20" by 20") at four intersection locations: Pacific Electric Trail @ Grove Avenue, @ Amethyst Avenue, @ Archibald Avenue, and @ Ramona Avenue.
Artists must be 18 years or older and professional artists. Preference will be given to artists who reside in the Inland Empire region. Artists will be awarded a $1,500.00 stipend per directional marker, inclusive of all design fees, supplies, fabrication, and time. The stipend will be distributed in two payments: $500 upon completion of the artwork design concept and $1,000 upon completed installation. Applications must include an Artist Statement of Interest (750 words maximum), Professional Resume with three references (1,500 words maximum), and up to 10 digital images of previous work created within the past 10 years. Application deadline is October 23, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. PDT. Selected finalists will be notified November 18-20, 2025, with concept development through January 15, 2026, and project installation in February 2026.
