About This Call
The City of Plano is seeking original artwork for seven designated locations on 15th Street between US75/Central Expressway and G Avenue as you approach the historic Downtown Plano Arts District. Six locations line the newly renovated north and south sides of 15th Street, and one larger area is in the landscaped median at 15th Street and the Frontage Road. Each location has power available. The artwork should declare the entrance of the arts district, with consideration given to traffic sightlines and pedestrians.
Selected artist compensation is $300,000, which includes design, implementation, and installation. Artists must submit 10-20 images of previous works (72 ppi/dpi resolution, minimum 1920 pixels on longest side, .jpeg format only) along with project locations, references, and descriptions. Additional submission materials include an Artist Statement (maximum 3,000 words), a bio (maximum 900 words), and a resume.
A board comprised of area residents, downtown Plano merchants, arts community representatives, and city staff will review submissions and evaluate artists on creativity and style fit for the Downtown Plano Arts District. Selected artists will be asked to provide their vision for specific project locations, considering automobile and foot traffic along 15th Street and durability to withstand outdoor elements. The selection process will narrow candidates to three finalists for presentation to City Council for final selection. Eligibility is national. Applications must be submitted through CallForEntry.org.
