About This Call
The City of Palo Alto Public Art Program invites artists working in all media to submit qualifications to create artwork at the Palo Alto Municipal Golf Course (1875 Embarcadero Road, Palo Alto, CA) under the City's Percent for Art Program. The artwork should be responsive to the usage and specifications of this outdoor recreational facility undergoing a major reconfiguration project. The estimated budget for the project is $24,450.00.
The City seeks an artist or team to create an original artwork integrated into the landscape of the reconfigured golf course. The selected artist/team will hold a minimum of one community meeting to gather input and work collaboratively with City staff and the design team to design, develop, and permanently install the artwork. Artwork should conceptually fulfill the environmental vision for the new golf course and is encouraged to use eco-friendly, sustainable, and alternative-energy elements. Artwork must be durable, low-maintenance, and appropriate to the environment. It should be well-integrated into the golf course design, communicate the rich history and character of the golf course and surrounding Baylands Nature Preserve, and be engaging to encourage public participation and interaction. Artwork may be functional and incorporate elements such as wayfinding, signage, or information communication.
The call is open to all professional artists over 18 residing in the United States. Artists with demonstrated interest in environmental issues and/or experience with sustainable infrastructure projects are especially encouraged to apply. All applicants must have necessary documentation and permits to work in the United States at the time of submission. The selection panel will review qualifications and select 3-5 artists to create site-specific proposals. Finalists will be paid a stipend for their proposal. Submission deadline: February 10, 2014. Applicants must submit an artist statement of interest (3000 characters maximum), resume, six images of previous work, and annotated descriptions including title, date, location, and budget for each artwork via the CaFÉ system at www.callforentry.org.
