About This Call

The City of Overland Park is renovating City Hall and seeking artists to provide wall-mounted art for interior public spaces, including a statement piece for the atrium ceiling and one non-monumental outdoor element. Art should reflect either the precision associated with city planning or the area's beauty and citizenry. The total budget for all acquisitions and installation is $100,000.

City Hall is located at 8500 Santa Fe Drive. Artists may visit the public spaces during business hours (Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm) to view installation sites. To schedule a walk-through, contact Julie Bilyea at 913-344-8656. Detailed images, elevations, and photographs of the site are available on the City's website.

Submissions must include high-resolution images (jpg or gif format), dimensions in inches and weight in pounds, recommended location, detailed mounting and installation information, recommended protection products if needed, itemized budget or pricing, artist vitae including previous commissions and acquisitions, and an artist statement regarding the work's creation, themes, messages, inspiration, and process. Artists and galleries may apply for some or all planned installations. Installation is required only for the statement piece and outdoor element. Non-traditional art is welcome with appropriate protections. Paintings, photographs, and two-dimensional works should not include frames. Art requiring pedestals or floor space will not be considered. All art must be appropriate for a public government building.

Deadline for submissions: August 30, 2017. Jury review: September 1 - October 1, 2017. Committee recommendation: October 10, 2017. Artists will be notified of recommendations October 11-14, 2017. Final approvals by Governing Body: November 2017. Acquisitions and commissions: December 2017 - 2018. All submissions must be received via www.callforentry.org.
