About This Call
The City of Orlando invites artists to submit proposals for a public art installation at Fire Station 6. The commissioned artwork will honor the dedication and service of Orlando's firefighters and reflect their pride, commitment, and community connection. The piece should inspire a sense of honor, appreciation, and service while providing a meaningful and visually striking element for the station, enhancing its ceremonial significance.
A total of $78,000 is allocated to fund this art project, including artwork development, transportation, site preparation, installation, permits, inspections, and associated utility hook-up if necessary. A $1,000 stipend will be provided to each of the top three artists being considered. The artwork should be 3D and installed at Fire Station #6 in November 2025. This opportunity is open to local, national, and international professional artists with experience designing and implementing large-scale public art and a proven record of completing similar projects on budget and on schedule.
The artwork must be created of durable, outdoor-appropriate materials suitable for Orlando's subtropical climate, including resistance to sun exposure, high humidity, heavy rain, and hurricane-force winds. It must be designed to require minimal maintenance, adhere to applicable building codes, and be appropriate for public and pedestrian-friendly environments. The artwork should not include theme park representation, logos, sports team representation, business representation, references to Pulse Nightclub or COVID-19, identifiable persons or celebrities, copyrighted or trademarked materials, or political messages.
Submissions must include: completed entry form, current résumé or CV, one-paragraph biography, artist statement addressing the vision for the proposed artwork, projected budget and payment schedule, minimum of five images of past outdoor artworks to scale, detailed description of proposed artwork including materials, dimensions, weight, installation requirements and estimated value, proposed project schedule, and required maintenance narrative. Deadline: February 7, 2025.
