About This Call
The City of Orlando Fire Department seeks an artist or artist team to create artwork for Fire Station 11, located at 4925 Curry Ford Road. The artwork should be a mural, mosaic, or similar type of art that enhances the design of the station with a focus on capturing the distinct character or culture of the community and Fire Department. Artwork with literal interpretations of the Fire Department is desirable. The artwork must be created of material appropriate to an outdoor environment, suitable for perpetual display with minimal maintenance, and appropriate for public viewing. Given Orlando's sub-tropical climate with intense sun, seasonal heavy rain, and potential hurricane force winds, materials resistant to fading and high-speed winds are essential. The art must meet applicable building codes.
A total of up to $70,000 is allocated to fund this art project, including artwork development, transportation, site preparation, installation, permits, inspections, and associated utility hook-up if necessary. The artist award amount is $60,000-$70,000, with a $1,000 stipend provided to each of the top three artists being considered. The artist must have a proven track record meeting budget and time schedule.
This call is open to professional artists working in two-dimensional or three-dimensional media. The City of Orlando Fire Department Station 11 Art Review Board will evaluate submissions based on the artist's professional qualifications, proven ability to undertake projects of similar scope, artistic merit, and previous public art experience. Finalists will be chosen based on the proposed artwork and strength of previous work as evidenced by visual support materials. In some instances, selection may require additional approval of corporate and/or local government representatives. Submit 3-6 images via Café by the deadline.
