City of Olathe 2021 Downtown Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit

The City of Olathe is seeking sculptures for its 2021 Downtown Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit. Artists 18 years and older may submit original work for consideration. Each artist may submit up to 3 sculptures. The entry fee is $10, and submissions must include at least 2 images of each sculpture (maximum 9 images per sculpture). Preference will be given to works fabricated within the past 3 years and works that have not been submitted to Olathe in the past 3 years. Local artists are encouraged to apply.

Selected sculptures must be suitable for long-term outdoor display and capable of being properly secured to the ground or concrete. Sculptures should be as vandal-proof as possible and safe to the public. The durability and scale of the piece will be considered during selection, as many sites are viewed from a distance. Artists will receive a $2,000 honorarium for each work selected for a one-year lease, with consideration given for a $4,000 honorarium for a two-year lease.

The entry deadline is January 4, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Notification of selections will be sent February 28, 2021. Art delivery is due by May 17, 2021, with the exhibition opening June 1, 2021 and closing May 1, 2022. Artists are responsible for all delivery and return costs. The exhibit will be juried by an Art Selection Panel comprised of Olathe Public Art Committee members and City of Olathe staff.
