About This Call

Four locations for art have been selected by the Public Arts Committee: two at Newport City Hall and two at the Newport Library. Artists may submit up to two entries for each location. Each piece submitted requires a separate application with a $25 entry fee. Selected artists will receive a $1,500 stipend per piece.

Art displayed must be available for sale to the public and remain on display for two years from installation. If a piece is purchased before the contract period ends, the artist has first opportunity to replace it with a work approved by the Public Art Committee. OCCA will provide bases for installation, and Newport Parks and Recreation crews are available to assist. All transportation costs are the artist's responsibility. Artwork must be original, suitable for all ages, and able to withstand coastal weather conditions including salt air, extreme wind, seasonal rain, theft, vandalism, rust, and corrosion. Maximum weight is 500 pounds; maximum height is 10 feet. Artwork must include a 36-inch diameter plate at the bottom with four 1-inch diameter bolt holes to accommodate ¾-inch bolts 22-inches on center for attachment to the provided base.

Eligibility: Artists must be 18 or older. Work-in-progress must be at least 75% completed with photographs submitted; mock-ups, models, drawings, or concepts are not accepted. Entries must be original designs with no intellectual property, trademark, or branding violations. No images of sex, violence, drugs, or alcohol will be considered. Artwork cannot be used for advertisement or to promote a business, product, or viewpoint. Submissions require 2-8 images in PDF format including title, date created, description, list price, detailed materials list, dimensions, weight, artist's history with materials, maintenance procedures, artist statement, and other pertinent information. If artwork is purchased while on display, OCCA collects 30% of proceeds. All maintenance and repairs are the artist's responsibility.
