About This Call

The City of Mountain View's Visual Arts Committee is inviting artists and artist teams working in a variety of media to exhibit public art in the lobby of the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts (500 Castro Street, Mountain View, CA 94039) for the 2020 season. In celebration of the American with Disabilities Act 30th anniversary, the Visual Arts Committee is encouraging a theme of inclusive art where the art appeals to all people and/or is experienced from multiple senses. The rotating exhibits are approximately six to eight weeks in length and are viewed by thousands of people visiting downtown Mountain View and attending shows at the Center.

The call is open to all professional artists and artist teams over the age of 18 residing in the local 11 San Francisco Bay Area Counties (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Benito, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano and Sonoma). Applications will be accepted from Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at 12:00 Noon (MST) to Friday, October 18, 2019 by 11:59 pm (MST). Only the first 120 applications will be accepted. Applications must be submitted online via CaFE at www.callforentry.org. There is no charge for artists to apply.

All applications must include an artist resume, five to ten images of current work, and annotated image descriptions with title, date, dimensions, and media type. Only artwork that is framed, properly wired and ready for installation will be accepted. Maximum dimensions per piece: width 60 inches (preferably less than 5 feet due to wall curvature), height 84 inches, depth 6 inches. Typical weight per artwork is up to 20 pounds. Art is hung on walls from a picture rail mounted eight feet from the floor. Art may also be hung in the Mountain View City Hall Community Development Department Lobby with maximum useable space of 8' wide by 5' high on walls or 5' wide by 2' high in alcoves. The Visual Arts Committee anticipates making artist selections by November 2019. The artist chosen for the first 6-8 week slot will be required to exhibit in February 2020.
