About This Call

The City of Mountain View's Visual Arts Committee is inviting artists and artist teams working in a variety of media to exhibit public art in the lobby of the Center for Performing Arts for the 2018 season. This year's theme is "Home" as it relates to the City of Mountain View's City Council 2-Year Major Goals Work Plan to improve the quantity, diversity, and affordability of housing. The Visual Arts Committee is interested in each artist's personal interpretation of what "Home" means to them. All artwork should have a subject matter that depicts the essence of "Home" and must be able to be hung on the Center for Performing Arts system per the requirements listed under Installation on the Floor/Site Plan.

The rotating exhibits are approximately six to eight weeks in length and are viewed by thousands of people visiting downtown Mountain View and attending shows at the Center for Performing Arts. The City will provide insurance, installation, and will offer a small stipend to help defray costs. Applications will be accepted from Friday, September 1, 2017 at 8:00 AM (PST) to Monday, October 2, 2017 by 11:00 PM (PST). Only the first 120 applications will be accepted. The call is open to all professional artists and artist teams over the age of 18 residing in the 11 San Francisco Bay Area Counties (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Benito, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, and Sonoma).

Applications must be submitted online via CaFE at www.callforentry.org. There is no charge to apply. Each application must include an artist resume, five to ten images of current work, and annotated image descriptions with title, date, dimensions, and media type. Artists and artist teams working in more than one medium may submit up to three separate applications. Artist teams of up to two members are eligible to apply. All exhibited artwork will be for sale through the Center for Performing Arts Box Office for a 20 percent commission, with credit card and debit card processing fees deducted from the sales price. The artist is responsible for all taxes due on the sale of art. The Visual Arts Committee anticipates making artist selections by October 26, 2017, with artists notified by November 1, 2017. The first exhibition installation is scheduled for December 5, 2017. All artwork must be thoroughly dry at least two weeks before the installation date. For additional information, contact [email protected] by October 13th.
