City of Mountain View Call for Artists 2016

The City of Mountain View's Visual Arts Committee invites artists and artist teams working in a variety of media to exhibit public art in the lobby of the Center for Performing Arts for the 2016 season. This year's exhibitions must feature a theme of Environmental Sustainability, which can include either the artwork medium used or the subject matter (such as ecological art using recycled materials, or nature/landscape subjects). All artwork must be able to be hung on the Center for Performing Arts system per installation requirements.

Rotating exhibits are approximately nine weeks in length and are viewed by thousands of people visiting downtown Mountain View and attending shows at the Center for Performing Arts. The City will provide insurance, installation, and a small stipend to help defray costs. The call is open to all professional artists and artist teams over the age of 18 residing in the 11 San Francisco Bay Area counties (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Benito, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, and Sonoma). Artists working in multiple media may submit up to three separate applications. Artist teams of up to three members are eligible.

Applications must be submitted online via CaFE at www.callforentry.org and must include an artist resume, five to ten images of current work, and annotated image descriptions with title, date, dimensions, and media type. All exhibited artwork will be offered for sale through the Center for Performing Arts Box Office for a 20 percent commission, with credit card and debit card processing fees deducted from the sales price. The artist is responsible for all taxes due on sales. The Visual Arts Committee anticipates making artist selections by November 1, 2015, with artist notification by November 9, 2015. The first installation date is December 8, 2015. All artwork must be thoroughly dry at least two weeks before the installation date.
