About This Call

The City of Mountain View Visual Arts Committee seeks to commission an artist or artist team to create public artwork for Pyramid Park, a planned neighborhood park at the corner of Pyramid Way and Infinity Way. The park will feature a dog area, open turf, exercise equipment, basketball court, restroom building, benches, trees, picnic tables, barbecue grills, and play areas. The VAC encourages functional art that incorporates the park's infrastructure or amenities, such as artistic benches, bike racks, shade structures, or sculptural pieces. All functional art must be accessible and compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Applications must be submitted online via CaFÉ at www.callforentry.org by 11:00 p.m. PST on January 20, 2020. Only the first 120 applications will be accepted. Applicants must be professional artists or artist teams over 18 years old residing in California. Applications must include a resumé, five to ten images of current artworks completed within the past two years, annotated images with descriptions, a final proposal including design and estimated timeline, and a total artwork fee. The artwork fee should include design, fabrication, transportation, loading and unloading, structural engineering design, calculations, and installation. Artists are responsible for obtaining building permits and structural engineering services; permit fees will be paid by the City.

The VAC is requesting proposals for artwork totaling $10,000, $15,000, or $30,000. The VAC may select multiple art installations and/or multiple artists. Construction of the park is planned for summer 2020 with completion in early 2021. Selected artwork is to be installed in spring 2021. All costs associated with visiting the site, preparing proposals, or attending VAC meetings shall be borne by the artist. For more information on the City's public art program, visit https://www.mountainview.gov/publicart.
