City of Miami Gardens: Miami Carol City Park Recreation Building Breezeway Mural

The City of Miami Gardens Art in Public Places Program requests qualifications from professional artists to design a mural for the Miami Carol City Park Recreation Building Breezeway. The project is open to experienced professional artists residing in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. Miami Gardens employees, selection panelists, and panelists' immediate family members are excluded from participation.

The Breezeway mural will be installed on the pre-painted ceiling and walls above the chair-rails in the Breezeway section of the Recreation Building, which has a total area of approximately 674 square feet. The work of art shall incorporate a sports/recreation/community activities theme (basketball, football, soccer, baseball, volleyball, jump-rope, events, etc.) and have consistency with the facility's current color scheme. The mural must be created using durable paints/materials able to adhere to a pre-painted surface and withstand outdoor environment and harsh weather conditions. The mural must avoid all switches, lighting, fire alarm pull boxes and alarm devices. Estimated completion is August 2011.

The estimated budget is $11,297.00, which must be inclusive of design, fabrication, installation, and any other costs associated with the implementation of the art project. Three finalists will be identified and paid a $250.00 honorarium to develop specific proposals prior to final selection. The primary criteria for finalist selection will be artistic design and initial approach to the project as demonstrated in the preliminary statement and conceptual sketch. All submissions must be received as a complete application by April 30, 2011, midnight. There is no application fee.
