About This Call
The City of Miami Gardens Art in Public Places Program requests qualifications from professional artists to design a mosaic for the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex Amphitheatre, located at 3000 NW 199 Street. The project is open to experienced professional artists residing in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. Miami Gardens employees, selection panelists, and their immediate family members are excluded from participation.
The Amphitheatre is a 2,600 square foot outdoor facility with an elevated concrete stage platform. Artists will design a stone/tile/metal/glass mosaic to be installed on the front face of the stage platform, which measures approximately 2 feet high by 66 feet wide (132 square feet total). The mosaic must be created using durable materials able to withstand outdoor conditions and harsh weather. The work should have consistency with the facility's Miami Modernist (MiMo) Architectural style and capture light while depicting a colorful theme. The City prefers a color palette based on its logo, with specific Sherwin Williams paint colors provided.
The estimated budget is $11,250.00, which must cover design, fabrication, installation, and all other costs associated with the project. Three finalists will be identified and paid a $250.00 honorarium to develop specific proposals. The project timeline is tight: the application deadline is April 30, 2011 (midnight), with artist shortlist announced May 9, finalist interviews May 23, and installation substantially complete by August 3, 2011. Artists applying must demonstrate the ability to meet these deadlines. Submissions must be received as a complete application via CaFÉ by the deadline. There is no application fee. For more information, contact Christina Goetzman at 305-622-8000 (Ext. 2513) or [email protected].
