About This Call

The City of Miami Gardens Art in Public Places Program invites professional artists residing in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties to design and create mosaic installations for the North Dade Optimist Park Recreation Building located at 19455 NW 12th Avenue. The project involves creating mosaics on 3-5 concrete columns (approximately 9 feet high and 40 square feet each) on the eastside of the building. The design should capture the essence of the neighborhood's community pride and activities, incorporate the facility's current color scheme, and withstand outdoor weather conditions.

The estimated budget is $12,750.00, which must cover design, fabrication, installation, and all associated costs. The artist will be responsible for the complete development of the artwork and must warranty the mosaic against defective materials, faulty fabrication, or techniques for 2 years from the City's final acceptance. Three finalists will be selected and paid a $250.00 honorarium to develop specific proposals. The selection process prioritizes artistic design and initial approach as demonstrated in preliminary statements and conceptual sketches.

Application deadline is February 28, 2014. Submissions must be received as complete applications via CaFÉ online system at www.callforentry.org. There is no application fee. The project timeline is time-sensitive, with substantial completion estimated for July 14, 2014. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to meet all project deadlines. Miami Gardens employees and selection panelists are excluded from participation. For more information, contact Morry Alls, Capital Improvement Projects Coordinator, at 305-622-8000 (Ext. 2513) or [email protected].
