About This Call
The City of Loveland Art in Public Places Program seeks sculptures to be placed in Downtown Loveland as part of The Art Advocacy Project (TAAP), a one-year sculpture exhibition scheduled from May 2019 until May 2020. Selected artists will be awarded an honorarium of $2,000. The installed artwork may be available for sale. A "People's Choice" Award of $500 will be held during the outdoor exhibition.
The program is open to all artists working in three-dimensional media. All durable outdoor media are encouraged. New in 2019: Applications for temporary artwork specifically designed to morph or transition over the year through exposure to the elements will be accepted. Safety considerations should be outlined in the application. Possible media might include fiber, wood, paper, etc. Artists may submit up to 2 sculptures for consideration. Submissions must be original creations, and the artist must own the rights to the artwork. The sculpture must be available for the duration of the one-year contract and must be professionally constructed of durable materials which will withstand the elements. Sculptures will be placed within a well-traveled shopping/gallery streetscape on a 3 ½' x 3 ½' plinth. The installation method should be welded tabs or similar easy-install method. Selected artists are responsible for transportation costs of the artwork to and from the installation site. The City of Loveland will install a recognition plaque and list all sculptures on the Art in Public Places webpages and within all TAAP promotional material. If artwork is sold, the Loveland Art in Public Places Program will retain a commission of 20% of the purchase value.
Submit three images per submission that clearly show a front and back view, including one that shows the scale of the work. Include all dimensions, weight, and a stated insurance value for the artwork. General liability insurance may be necessary for selected artists. The City of Loveland will incur no liability in the delivery of sculpture to or from the installation location. The City is responsible for making minor emergency repairs when necessary and maintaining insurance coverage on the works due to vandalism. The City will not be liable for degradation caused by normal wear and tear and weathering. For bronze work, the artist should cold wax the artwork prior to or immediately following installation.
