About This Call
The Loveland Service Center, located at the corner of Wilson Avenue and First Street, is undergoing major additions and realignment of City services in 2013. A new entrance will be created along First Street, identified as the site for public artwork. Though not normally frequented by the public, the site is highly visible, and the goal is to make the entrance and perimeter area aesthetically pleasing to the general public.
The selected artist will be responsible for designing and executing the main entryway feature and will work with the design team immediately. The artwork should utilize the site's topography, be visible from vehicles along First Street, interpret the functions of the site, serve as an identity marker, and may include landscaping as part of the overall design. The overall budget for the artwork is approximately $75,000, including design, fabrication, insurance, installation, contingency, travel, and incidental costs. The design budget may not exceed $5,000.
The project is open to professional artists residing within a 150-mile radius of Loveland. Selection criteria include experience collaborating with architects and design teams, ability to communicate effectively and meet deadlines, previous similar artistic accomplishment, and availability to begin work immediately. Applications must include a current resume or curriculum vitae, five to ten digital images of work fabricated within the last five years, a written preliminary statement not exceeding one page addressing interest in the project and preliminary approach, and three professional references. Applications must be received by February 15, 2013. Finalists will be notified by March 11, 2013.
