About This Call

Loveland Art in Public Places (AIPP) seeks an artist or design team to create sound-diffusing artwork on the west wall of the Devereaux Room at the Rialto Theater. The artwork will serve both a functional and aesthetic purpose, managing sound in the multi-functional space while creating a visually appealing focal point. The wall dimensions are 37' 3" L x 10' 3" H (approximately 370 sq. ft.), and the art installation must be 5 inches deep or less. The artwork can be installed as one continuous piece or in related panels or shapes that form a pattern.

The artwork should be flat or low-relief and almost weightless without being flimsy. Artists are encouraged to use lightweight, porous materials such as foam, cork, fabric, felt, textiles, or other sound-absorbing materials. The work must be reasonably durable to withstand public contact and high room usage. The specific subject matter, layout, style, and color palette are open to the artist. A maximum budget of $6,000 has been allocated to cover design, fabrication, insurance, installation, travel, contingency, and incidental costs. The artist or artist team must install the artwork on location and is responsible for all materials and installation costs.

Applications must include: a statement of approach demonstrating experience with similar projects; 5-10 images of fabricated and installed artwork completed within the past five years (no more than 2 images per project); a professional resume highlighting public or private artwork commissions; and 3 professional references. Up to three finalists may be selected to present design concepts and will receive an honorarium for this work. The selected artist/artist team will enter into a contract with the City of Loveland and must carry $1 million general liability insurance. Eligibility is open to any artist living or working within the United States. Contact Suzanne Janssen, Public Art Manager, at [email protected] or 970-962-2495 for clarification or additional project details.
