About This Call

The City of Loveland Visual Arts Commission seeks one artist to create three Art Deco-inspired murals for the historic Pulliam Community Building at 545 Cleveland Avenue in Loveland, Colorado. Up to three artists will be considered to present design concepts for the following mural sites: Community Meeting Room (107 sq. ft.), "Speakeasy Lounge" Elevator Surround (183 sq. ft.), and Exterior ADA Accessible Elevator (144 sq. ft.), totaling 434 sq. ft.

The Pulliam Community Building, constructed between 1937 and 1939 with WPA labor, is an outstanding example of WPA Art Deco architecture and is listed on the Loveland Landmark Register. The current interior renovations embrace the Art Deco aesthetic of the building's original structure. Any artistic additions must align with Art Deco style or focus on the WPA aspect of the building's history. A full color palette and finish materials have been selected and will be provided to the selected artist(s). The building is expected to open to the public by the end of 2025, with mural installations desired by February 2026.

The project budget is $13,000, which includes all design, materials, drawings, fabrication, equipment, insurance, installation, travel, contingency, and incidental costs. Applicants must submit a professional resume highlighting mural experience, a maximum of five images of past work completed within the past five years, a one-page preliminary statement of approach, and three professional references. Finalists will be selected to present design concepts and will receive an honorarium of $1,000 for presenting at a Visual Arts Commission meeting in fall 2025. The awarded artist must enter into a contract with the City and provide certificates of general liability and automobile insurance within 30 days. The project is open to professional artists with experience creating original murals for public spaces.
