About This Call
This Request for Qualifications is open to Larimer County artists and fabricators with experience in creating functional artwork for the Olde Course at Loveland clubhouse. The course provides recreational opportunities for resident and visiting golfers, with an average of more than 40,000 rounds cycling through the clubhouse annually. The original clubhouse was built in 1965 with additions in 1970 and 2002. In 2022, clubhouse renovations began to create a more modern and welcoming facility, including a complete renovation of the pro shop and food and beverage area, relocation of outdoor patios, and creation of a customer-friendly grand entrance.
Several areas have been identified as key locations for public artwork. Preferred locations include the front entryway expanse, entry gates (embellishment of existing wrought iron gates), outdoor fireplace seating area, planters and/or benches in the main entry walkway, and selective sculpture placement(s). Finalists will have the freedom to present designs for areas of their choice and will be provided an opportunity to tour the facility.
A maximum of $27,000 has been allocated for the project to include design, fabrication, insurance, installation, travel, contingency, and all incidental costs. Up to three finalists may be selected to present design concepts and will be paid an honorarium for this work. Applications must include a preliminary statement of approach, at least 5 images (maximum 10) of fabricated and installed public artwork completed within the past five years (no more than 2 images per project), a professional resume highlighting similar outdoor commissions and sculpture installations, and 3 professional references. Do not submit images of past proposals that have not been executed.
Selected artwork should reflect northern Colorado plains or golf culture (design does not have to be representational), be functional, suitable for general public viewing, and not be construed as wayfinding signs. The selection panel includes members of the City of Loveland Visual Arts Commission, Golf division representatives, and up to 4 Loveland residents. The selected artist/artist team will enter into a contract with the City of Loveland and will be required to carry general liability insurance of $1 million and execute the design as presented. Stamped, engineered drawings are required before acceptance and installation. Finalists will likely present their design concepts at the May 4 Visual Arts Commission meeting. Project completion date will be determined jointly by the artist, City staff, and the Visual Arts Commission.
