City of Loveland: Mehaffey Park Artist RFQ

The City of Loveland Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a professional artist to work on the design team for Mehaffey Park, a 60-acre community park located north of 22nd Street, south of 29th Street, and west of Wilson Avenue. The park was purchased in 1987 from the Mehaffey family and is bordered on two sides by residential development. Terms of the purchase require the establishment of an arboretum.

The selected artist will be responsible for identifying locations for site-specific integrated artwork, interpreting the site using feedback from citizens and user groups, identifying ways to maximize Art in Public Places monies through projects integrated into park construction, and preparing and presenting design concepts to the Visual Arts Commission. The artist will work with architects and design teams beginning immediately upon award. The all-inclusive budget for this project is approximately $60,000, with compensation based on an hourly rate.

Eligibility: The project is open to professional artists with proven experience working with architects and design teams on parks projects. Artists must demonstrate effective communication skills and the ability to meet critical deadlines. The selected artist must reside within an 80-mile radius of Loveland and be available to begin work immediately. Selection criteria include previous artistic accomplishment, experience collaborating with architects and design teams, and demonstrated ability to complete public art projects on time and within budget. Submissions must include a current resume or curriculum vitae, ten digital images of past work related to parks projects, and a written preliminary statement (not exceeding 3000 characters) addressing interest in the project and approach to working with the design team. Deadline: February 5, 2012 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Finalists will be notified by February 12, 2012.
