City of Loveland - Madison Avenue Corridor Roundabout Sculpture

The City of Loveland is seeking a sculpture for a roundabout located at the intersection of 37th Street and Madison Avenue. Madison Avenue is a critical north-south transportation corridor in central Loveland undergoing a large-scale infrastructure project that will transform the roadway into a multimodal corridor with improvements to transportation, replacement of aging storm pipes, waterlines, and gas lines, and undergrounding of dry utilities.

A maximum of $49,000 has been allocated for the roundabout sculpture, including design, fabrication, insurance, installation, travel, contingency, and incidental costs. The sculpture should have immediate visual impact from a distance without requiring close inspection. Design preferences include: reflects the animals and plant life of the northern Colorado plains (design does not have to be representational); works "in the round"; makes use of silhouetted or negative space; easily identifiable from a distance; suitable for general public viewing; and could not be construed as traffic or wayfinding signals. Materials must be safe and durable for the Colorado climate, including winds up to 120 mph.

Up to three finalists will be selected to present design concepts and will receive an honorarium for development and presentation. The selected artist will enter into a contract with the City of Loveland and must carry general liability insurance of $1 million. Stamped, engineered drawings are required before acceptance and installation. Applications must include: a preliminary statement of approach demonstrating experience with similar projects; at least 5 images (maximum 10) of fabricated and installed public artwork completed within the past five years, with no more than 2 images per project; a professional resume highlighting public artwork commissions and sculpture installations; and 3 professional references.
