About This Call
The City of Loveland Visual Arts Commission seeks Artist(s) or Artist Teams to create public art for its downtown revitalization program, known as the Heart Improvement Plan (HIP Streets). The project encompasses five blocks of Loveland's historic downtown—from Garfield Avenue to Washington Avenue—as part of a larger nineteen-block downtown core revitalization effort. The city is undertaking utility infrastructure upgrades, roadway, and sidewalk improvements, creating an opportunity to incorporate public artwork throughout the area.
The project includes a central sculptural element between Lincoln Avenue and Cleveland Avenue featuring a key, central lighted artwork with existing electrical infrastructure and a metal ring structure supported by poles and caissons. Additional sculptural or lighted elements on a smaller scale are desired for all five blocks, with emphasis on ground-level interactive work. Sandstone seating quarried locally will feature opportunities for works of art. Community input indicates interest in railroad-themed art, large cherry imagery, Loveland history, lighted art, rooftop art, poems engraved into rock seating, contemporary subjects, temporary artwork, interactive artwork, large-scale artwork, and Indigenous and Latinx representation. Multiple Artists/Artist Teams may be selected to present design concepts. HIP Streets construction began in early 2025 and is expected to be completed in Q1 2027, with artwork installation acceptable by spring 2027.
Applications must include: a one-page statement of approach demonstrating experience with similar scope and scale; a minimum of 5 and maximum of 15 images of fabricated and installed public artwork completed within the past five years, highlighting at least one suspended art element; professional resumes for each artist highlighting commissions and sculpture installations; and 3 professional references. Finalists will be paid an honorarium for their design concepts and will be expected to provide detailed drawings, narrative, detailed budget, and timeline of completion. The overall project budget is $450,000, including design, engineered drawings, fabrication, insurance, equipment, installation, travel, contingency, and all incidental costs. Jury dates: 8/21/25 - 10/8/25.
