About This Call
The Hatfield Chilson Recreation Center, located at the Civic Center complex at 500 East Third Street in downtown Loveland, is undergoing an expansion. This is a Request for Qualifications for professional artists to create public artwork for the site.
Thematic elements for the project are Water and Family. The works of art should utilize the exterior of the site, with particular interest in the exterior of the natatorium facing Fourth Street, utilize the reception area of the existing structure, and identify additional sites for public artwork. Up to $70,000 has been allocated for the project to include design, fabrication, insurance, installation, landscaping (if applicable), travel, and all incidental costs. The project is due for completion in December 2010.
Eligibility: The project is open to any professional artist(s) with proven experience working with architects and design teams. Artists must have proven ability to communicate effectively and meet critical deadlines. Due to the need to meet regularly with the architect/design team, artists should reside within a 150-mile radius of Loveland. If awarded, the artist(s) must be available to begin work immediately.
Selection criteria include previous artistic accomplishment, experience collaborating with architects and design teams, and demonstrated ability to complete public art projects in a timely manner and within budget. Up to three finalists will be chosen to present final design concepts. Each finalist (or finalist group) will be awarded $1,000 for their presentation. Finalists must be available to present their concepts on August 19, 2010.
Submission requirements: current resume or curriculum vitae, ten images representing past work, a written preliminary statement not to exceed 5000 characters addressing the artist's interest in the project and preliminary approach, and three professional references with contact information. Submissions must be made by July 9, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Finalists will be notified by July 23, 2010. Contact Suzanne Janssen at 970-962-2490 or [email protected] for questions.
