About This Call

The City of Loveland Art in Public Places is accepting Requests for Qualifications for sculptural concrete panels to be installed at the Crossroads Power Substation located along N. Boyd Lake Avenue in northeast Loveland. This project is open to any professional artist or artist team with demonstrated experience in creating signature concrete relief artwork of large scale. The selected artist(s) will be responsible for the design, fabrication, and delivery of these panels ready-to-install at the site.

In fall 2020, the Power Department will install a large concrete wall along the perimeter of the Crossroads power substation. The 321' x 12' façade will feature public artwork due to its high visibility and close proximity to residential units and local businesses. The artist(s) selected will interact with City staff and the Contractor to determine final placement and dimensions for the artwork, with installation desired by early 2021. A maximum of $75,000 has been allocated for the project to include design, fabrication, insurance, travel, contingency and incidental costs. The City will pay an independent contractor up to $25,000 for installation of the artwork panels. A performance bond may also be required.

Applications must include: a preliminary statement of approach demonstrating experience with similar scope and scale projects; at least five images of fabricated and installed public artwork completed within the past five years (no more than two images per project, maximum 10 images total); a professional resume highlighting similar public artwork installations; and three professional references. The Commission is requesting qualifications only; up to three finalists may be selected to present design concepts and will be paid an honorarium to develop and present their artwork design concepts. Semi-finalists will be notified by September 8, 2020. Project completion is intended for spring 2021.
