About This Call
The City of Loveland Art in Public Places Program is accepting Requests for Qualifications for artwork installations along 37th Street between North Lincoln Street and Monroe as part of the 37th Street Connector infrastructure project. Two locations have been identified for public artwork installations. Artists may apply to one or both projects; however, these RFQs will be released and reviewed separately under the names of City of Loveland: 37th Street Bridge and City of Loveland: 37th Street Roundabout. Both projects are open to any professional artist or artist team with demonstrated experience in creating signature artwork of large scale.
For the 37th Street Bridge project, the pedestrian walkway and railing on each side of the bridge are possible locations for public art. Artwork may also be attached to the top of the pillars and 1" recesses along the length of the bridge. The bridge will have vehicle traffic and feature sidewalks and bike lanes on both sides. Surface length is 90 feet each side (180 feet total). Budget: $35,000. Construction will be completed in June 2020. The artwork will be located in the line of sight for motorists and pedestrians and should have immediate visual impact without requiring close inspection. The scale of the art should be appropriate to the site scale.
Applications must include: a preliminary statement of approach communicating scope and scale; at least 5 images (maximum 10) of fabricated and installed public artwork completed within the past five years, with no more than 2 images per project; professional resume highlighting public artwork commissions and sculpture installations; and 3 professional references. Do not submit images of past proposals that have not been executed. The Commission will select up to three finalists to present design concepts. Finalists will be paid an honorarium to develop and present their artwork design concepts. Design preferences include artwork reflecting animals and plant life of the northern Colorado plains (not necessarily representational), use of silhouetted or negative space, easily identifiable from a distance, suitable for general public viewing, and not construable as traffic or wayfinding signals. The $35,000 budget must cover all design, fabrication, insurance, installation, travel, contingency and incidental costs. Stamped, engineered drawings are required prior to acceptance and installation. Contact: Suzanne Janssen, Public Art Manager, (970) 962-2495, [email protected].
