About This Call
The Art in Public Places Commission of the City of Longmont invites artists to design and enhance the restrooms in the new auditorium of the Longmont Museum with permanent artwork. The Commission seeks an artist able to design and fabricate something unique, timeless, and permanent that will add fun and vitality to the restrooms. Artwork must require little maintenance yet be able to tolerate frequent cleaning due to the high-traffic location. The goal is to make the restrooms a memorable and surprising experience—"the coolest restrooms in Boulder County."
Artwork may be incorporated into walls (tiled or murals), sinks or faucets, floors, lighting, stall doors, or ceilings. All designs must be low to no maintenance beyond easy cleaning and must meet ADA requirements. Artists must be willing to work with the Museum Project Manager to ensure compliance. Blueprints are available for detailed design work. Artists' designs must incorporate elements in both male and female restrooms, though they need not be identical or equal. Off-limits: anything structural or fixtures.
Submissions must include six images of past work showing relevancy to similar projects. Three finalists will be selected to present detailed proposals in person or via Skype during the week of November 3, and will receive a $400 honorarium. The winning artist will receive $20,000 for the final design and completed artwork. Installation may be completed by the artist or the general contractor. Delivery and installation are planned for late spring/early summer 2015. This opportunity is open to artists residing in the USA. All submissions must be received through callforentry.org by September 26, 2014.
