About This Call
The City of Longmont's Art in Public Places Commission invites Colorado artists to submit work for a new trailhead location off the St. Vrain Greenway. The trailhead will be constructed in late 2010/early 2011 and will be accessible from Weld County Road 1, approximately one mile south of E. Ken Pratt Boulevard (SH 119). The site will serve runners, walkers, strollers, and equestrians with facilities including restrooms, pavilions with picnic tables, and parking. The trailhead provides access to the St. Vrain Greenway, a 14-mile multiuse path that extends from Golden Ponds on the west side to Sandstone Ranch on the east side of Longmont, located 25 miles north of Denver.
Up to $20,000 is available for a Colorado artist or team of artists, covering design, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, artists' insurance, and miscellaneous expenses. Any practicing visual artist residing in Colorado may apply; students pursuing graduate or undergraduate degrees in fine art are not eligible. Galleries may apply on behalf of individual artists. Artists wishing to collaborate may submit 10 images total and a resume for each artist. Artwork must withstand all weather conditions, including high winds, snow, ice, and extreme temperatures. The selection panel will consider quality, innovation, timelessness, compatibility with site, permanence, durability, safety, low maintenance, and appropriateness to the natural surroundings.
A selection panel of citizens, artists, city staff, and neighbors will review submissions. Three finalists will be invited to tour the site and make presentations to the selection panel. An honorarium and travel stipend are provided for finalists. Submission deadline: November 10, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Contact: [email protected]
