About This Call
Art on the Move (AOTM) is a public art program in Longmont that displays unique and creative artworks in downtown locations for community members and visitors to experience year-round. The Art in Public Places Commission (AIPP) of the City of Longmont is seeking artwork from Colorado artists for Art on the Move 2014-15. Artwork will be displayed in various locations from July 2014 through June 2015.
Up to six works of art will be selected for the following locations: St. Stephen's Plaza (up to three pieces on circular steel plates installed on concrete pedestals of set sizes), Waste Diversion Center (one piece in a special "recycled" category), Kensington Park (one piece along Third Avenue on a steel base), and Civic Center (one concrete pedestal). All artwork must be durable and able to withstand extreme weather conditions including intense sunlight, high winds, and freezing temperatures mixed with ice and snow. All media will be considered; however, all work submitted must adhere to space criteria as pedestals are of set sizes. This year, all artworks will be displayed outside.
Artists may submit up to three different pieces, with up to three images per piece. Each submission must include approximate measurements, materials used, exact size of base plate, approximate weight, and proposed installation method or sketch of base footprint. Artwork must be size/scale appropriate, transportable after the 11-month period, and appropriate for public display without offensive, religious, or political messages. The selection panel will consider appropriateness, durability, uniqueness, compatibility with site, and safety. Artists selected for AOTM 2014-15 will receive a stipend of $750 per piece after delivery and installation. The City of Longmont will be responsible for installation and any damage that may occur while on display. A Community Choice Award of $500 will be allocated based on public voting after installation. Artwork may be available for sale and will be referenced as such on the City's AIPP website. Delivery and installation is scheduled for June 25 - July 5, 2014, with deinstallation in June 2015.
