About This Call
The Art in Public Places Commission (AIPP) of the City of Longmont is seeking artwork from Colorado artists for the Art on the Move (AOTM) 2013-14 program. Artwork will be displayed in various locations throughout Longmont from July 2013 through June 2014. Up to seven works of art will be selected for the following locations: up to three at St. Stephen's Plaza (circular steel plates on concrete pedestals), one at the Longmont Waste Diversion Center, one at Kensington Park along Third Avenue (concrete pedestals or steel base), one in the Longmont Museum roundabout, and one on a blank wall at a location to be determined.
Artwork must be durable and able to withstand all weather conditions, including intense sunlight, high winds, and freezing temperatures mixed with ice and snow. All media will be considered; however, work must be size and scale appropriate for the existing bases and pedestals, and must be transportable after the 11-month display period. Artwork must be appropriate for public display and will not be considered if any offensive, religious, or political messages may be interpreted. In 2013, AOTM is seeking work fabricated with 100% recycled materials for the Waste Diversion Center; submissions for this category should be identified with a "recycled" symbol.
Artists who reside in Colorado are invited to submit up to three different pieces. Each submission must include up to two images or drawings per piece, artwork measurements, materials used, base plate size, approximate weight, and proposed installation method or sketch of base footprint. Artists selected for AOTM 2013-14 will receive a stipend of $750 per piece after delivery and installation. The City of Longmont will be responsible for installation; no additional funds are available for transport. A Community Choice Award of $500 will be given to the public's favorite piece. The submission deadline is January 31, 2013. Artists will be notified in March 2013, with delivery and installation scheduled for June 25–July 5, 2013.
