About This Call

Art on the Move is a public art program established in 2005 by the City of Longmont's Art in Public Places Commission. The program displays rotating artwork in various locations throughout downtown Longmont, including St. Stephen's Plaza, Longmont Waste Diversion Center, Kensington Park, Longmont Museum roundabout, Izaak Walton Clubhouse, and Civic Center. More than 35 works have been displayed since the program's inception, with over 20 artists represented.

The Art in Public Places Commission is seeking artwork from Colorado artists for Art on the Move 2012-13. Up to eight works will be selected for display from July 2012 through June 2013. Artwork must be durable and able to withstand all weather conditions including intense sunlight, high winds, and freezing temperatures. All media will be considered, but work must be size and scale appropriate for the designated pedestals and bases at each location. Artists may submit up to three different pieces, with up to two images per piece plus additional images showing completed work. Submissions must clearly identify images as "P" (proposed) or "NA" (not available). Include materials, approximate weight and size, installation method, and exact footprint measurements with each proposal. A special category seeks work fabricated with recycled materials for the Waste Diversion Center.

Selected artists will receive a $750 stipend per piece upon delivery, with additional funds available for transport upon request. The City will handle all installation and deinstallation. A new People's Choice Award will award $500 to one artist selected by community vote. The selection panel will evaluate submissions based on appropriateness, durability, uniqueness, site compatibility, and safety. Artwork may be completed and available or fabricated before the July 2012 installation date. Timeline: January 27, 2012 – submission deadline; March 2012 – artist notification; June 25-July 13, 2012 – artwork delivery and installation; July 20, 2012 – dedication; June 2013 – deinstallation.
