About This Call
Art on the Move placed its first artwork in St. Stephen's Plaza in Longmont in July 2005. Since that time, more than 30 pieces have been displayed in this pocket park in downtown Longmont as well as various other locations. More than 20 artists have had their work presented to this community as they walk, ride bikes and meander throughout the City.
The Art in Public Places Commission of the City of Longmont is seeking artwork from Colorado artists for Art on the Move 2011-12. Artwork will be displayed in various City locations from July 2011 through June 2012. Up to five works of art will be selected. At least two will be displayed in St. Stephen's Plaza on pedestals with circular steel plates installed on concrete. Additional pedestals include a boulder at the recycling facility and concrete piers in Kensington Park along Third Avenue. Artwork must be durable and able to withstand all weather conditions, including intense sunlight, high winds, and freezing temperatures mixed with ice and snow. All media will be considered; however, all work submitted must adhere to space criteria as pedestals are of set sizes.
Artists may submit up to three different pieces. Submit up to two images or drawings for each piece proposed, and use remaining image allotment to show completed work. Clearly designate all images with "P" for proposed or "NA" for Not Available. Include a brief description of your proposed method of installation and exact measurements of the footprint. Artwork must be size/scale appropriate, transportable after the 11-month period, and appropriate for public display. Work will not be considered if any offensive, religious, or political messages may be interpreted. The selection panel will consider appropriateness, durability, uniqueness, compatibility with site, and safety. Artwork may be completed and available or work to be fabricated before the July 2011 installation date. Artists will receive a stipend of $750 per piece upon delivery to Longmont, with additional monies potentially available for transport. The City will be responsible for installation. Submission deadline: February 18, 2011. Artists will be notified in March 2011. Delivery and installation occur June 28 - July 13, 2011. Dedication is July 15, 2011. Deinstallation and return of work to artists occurs in June 2012.
