About This Call
The Art in Public Places Commission of the City of Longmont is seeking artwork for its Art on the Move program. Artwork will be displayed in various City locations from July 2009 to June 2010. Up to five pieces of artwork will be selected for display. At least two will be displayed in St. Stephen's Plaza on a pedestal. Other pedestals have dimensions of 24" x 37" x 10" (h) and one with dimensions of 16" (h) x 41.5" (w) x 60" (l). A fifth site may be determined upon receipt of proposals, with possible locations including Civic Center plaza (350 Kimbark Street), Eco-Cycle (140 Martin Street), and the Museum & Cultural Center.
All artwork must be durable and able to withstand Colorado weather conditions, including freezing and thawing, extreme sunlight, and high winds. All media will be considered; however, all work submitted must adhere to space criteria as pedestals are of set sizes. Artists are invited to submit up to three different pieces, with up to two images or drawings for each piece proposed, and the remaining image allotment to show previous completed work. Artwork must be appropriate for public display and will not be considered if any offensive or religious connotations may be interpreted. The selection review panel will consider appropriateness, durability, uniqueness, compatibility with site, and safety.
Artists will receive a stipend of $750 per piece upon delivery to Longmont, with additional monies possibly available for transportation. The City of Longmont will be responsible for installation of all artwork. The deadline to apply is January 30, 2009. Artists will be notified of selection in March 2009. Artwork must be delivered between June 22 and July 15, 2009, and will remain on display until June 20, 2010. A dedication for Art on the Move 2009-10 works will be held on July 17, 2009. Submit 6-10 total images.
