About This Call
Art in Public Places is seeking a variety of unique and original artwork in diverse media for display throughout Longmont's Downtown Creative District. All artwork must be size/scale appropriate and transportable after the 12-month display period. Artwork must be appropriate for outdoor public display and will not be considered if any offensive, religious, or political messages may be interpreted. The selection panel will consider appropriateness, durability, uniqueness, compatibility with site, and safety. Work must be durable and able to handle extreme weather conditions, which may include intense sunlight, high winds, and freezing temperatures mixed with ice and snow. Fading from sunlight exposure will not be considered grounds for rejection. Artists may submit work that is complete and available or work to be fabricated before the July 2017 installation date. Artwork may be available for sale.
The program particularly welcomes interactive artwork, various media, light installations, and functional artwork. All twelve sites will be located in Longmont's Downtown Creative District. Eligibility is open to Colorado artists only. Artists are not allowed to apply in teams. Submissions should include up to 10 total images of up to three different proposed pieces/installations, an artist statement (100-word maximum), a letter of interest (100-word maximum), and a resume or CV with contact information, website, and three references.
Awards include $750 per piece (up to three pieces per artist) after installation, plus $500 for Community Choice Award, $300 for Best New Artist, and $500 for City Council Choice. The timeline includes a March 1, 2017 submission deadline, late March finalist notification, April 2017 contract negotiation, and July 5-7, 2017 installation. An artists' reception and walking tour will be held on July 7, 2017.
