About This Call
The City of Livermore, CA invites qualified artists to submit proposals for a life-size traditional bronze monument honoring Livermore area cowboys and veterans. This outdoor sculpture will be permanently installed at Stockmen's Park, a new downtown park located in the northeast portion of the area bounded by Railroad Avenue on the north, S. Livermore Avenue on the east, First Street on the south, and S. L Street on the west. The park will be dedicated to Livermore residents and veterans of the Livermore Valley who served during various wars and conflicts. While the park honors all veterans, the monument will be specific to a World War I veteran.
The artwork will be a raised bronze sculpture of a 6-foot tall cowboy taking off his cowboy hat with one hand while replacing it with a World War I helmet in his other hand, placed upon a complementary base. The base will include a commemorative plaque. The budget for the sculpture and base is $125,000, which includes all costs related to the artist's design, supplies, materials, fabrication, transportation, delivery, and installation, as well as required insurance. The identification plaque and ongoing maintenance will be the City's responsibility.
This call is open to all artists residing in the United States, with special consideration given to submissions by artists with demonstrated knowledge of authentic California cowboys. Previous installation of outdoor monument art is not required, but demonstrated experience in successfully realizing permanent public art installations will be considered. Applicants must submit an artist statement or résumé with website address, up to three images or designs of proposed artwork with scale indicated, installed dimensions, three color images of sample works representing original work and public art experience, and contact information for two references from similar scope and size projects. The deadline for entry is April 20, 2018 at 10:00 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time. Applications may be submitted through CAFE or to [email protected] (with a 10MB email limit). Contact Rebecca Cox, Staff Liaison Commission for the Arts, at [email protected] or (925) 960-4581.
