About This Call
The City of Livermore invites visual artists or artist teams to submit qualifications to develop a site-integrated public art project to be permanently located at Livermorium Plaza in downtown Livermore. The art will commemorate the discovery of Livermorium, which was adopted as Element #116 on the Periodic Table on May 30, 2012.
Eligibility is open to professional artists or artist teams residing in the United States who have successfully completed at least two original, permanent public art projects commissioned for an outdoor environment, demonstrate aesthetic excellence in design and execution, and have the ability to design, fabricate, install, or oversee installation of commissioned work. The project budget is $175,000 and includes all costs related to project management, design, fabrication, transportation, delivery, installation, permits, licenses, insurance, and other associated costs.
Program goals include creating an original, site-specific art project for public space that provides an interactive and educational experience inviting the public to learn about Livermorium and science, and uses light, wind, or other natural phenomena to create engaging, kinetic art. The public art will be permanently located at Livermorium Plaza at 116 South Livermore Avenue, the main intersection in Livermore's downtown. Applications must include a statement of interest (2,000 characters maximum), vitae or résumé describing experience with at least two site-specific public art projects, three to five references from similar projects, and three to six images and/or videos of previous work. Applicants with the three highest rankings will be invited to develop and submit conceptual design proposals. Artists selected to submit conceptual designs will be asked to attend a project orientation; those traveling more than 60 miles will receive a pre-approved travel allowance.
