About This Call

Sculpture at the River Market announces a public art commission for a sculpture to be installed in the Heights/Hillcrest neighborhood in Little Rock, Arkansas. The site is located at the junction of Kavanaugh Boulevard and Crestwood Drive, forming a triangular space with a 5-foot rock convex wall. The triangle measures 19 feet at the base and 20 feet from the wall to the rounded tip. The sculpture will be placed in front of the wall facing the point of the triangle.

Artists are invited to propose a visually interesting, safe, three-dimensional public art piece that is durable, easily maintained, and free standing. The piece must be appropriate for outdoor space and created primarily as an aesthetic expression. The project budget is up to $60,000 and must include all costs related to design, engineering, materials, fabrication, travel expenses, required insurance, shipping, and installation. The winning artist will be responsible for submitting a stamped structural engineer's drawing before the second installment payment and must be present for installation, which must be completed by April 1, 2022.

Eligibility is open to all fine art sculptors who are residents of and/or working in the United States. Submissions must include 6 images: 3 of the proposed sculpture and 3 of the artist's recent works. The selection process will identify three finalists by March 23, 2021. Finalists must be available for a committee interview via Zoom on April 24, 2021, with a possible in-person event in Little Rock depending on COVID-19 conditions. Selection will be based on overall strength of design concept (55%), durability of design (30%), and clarity and completeness of proposal (15%).
