About This Call
The City of Lauderhill's Public Art Program seeks to commission an artist or team of artists to create an original public artwork for the exterior of Lauderhill Performing Arts Center. The identified exterior area is located outside the box office area. The footprint for the work is approximately 24 ft wide x 12 ft tall.
The City is seeking a wall sculpture with lighting that will enhance the experience of visitors to the performing arts center. The sculpture should complement the building and interior artwork in the lobby. Works that are innovative, inspiring, and vibrant are desired. All applicants must consider long-term conservation and maintenance of public art. The public artwork should be fabricated of highly durable, low-maintenance materials that can withstand South Florida's subtropical climate, humidity, intense sunlight, high winds, and heavy rains. The artwork must meet Florida Building Code and Hurricane Resistant Requirements.
This project is open to national (U.S. based) artists. The City is especially interested in artists who can demonstrate a deep understanding of the community and the area's history. The budget for this commission is $100,000 USD, inclusive of all costs including design fee, consultation fees, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and contingency expenses. Three to five finalists will be selected to create site-specific proposals and participate in virtual interviews. Finalists will receive an honorarium for this work. Applicants must submit 4 digital images, a one to two-page resume, and a statement of interest (3,000 character maximum) via www.callforentry.org. There is no application fee.
