About This Call
The City of Laramie Fire Department is renovating the Fire Training Facility near the intersection of State Highway 287 and Interstate 80 in Laramie, Wyoming. The facility will include a 2-story multi-room burn building, a 4-story drill tower, and a classroom facility. A site for artwork has been identified near the new entrance, where an artwork could be installed beside, on, or around the signage space. This is an ideal opportunity for artists working in large-scale sculpture, with light, or with water. The artwork will be sited in the most publicly visible location and will primarily be seen and interacted with by members of the City of Laramie Fire Department and visiting departments.
The call is open to artists ages 18 and over who reside in Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, Utah, or South Dakota. Preference will be given to Wyoming artists. The budget is $32,000 including fabrication, installation, artist fees, travel, and insurance. A selection committee will select up to three finalists to develop proposals based on artistic merit and interest in creating work for the Fire Department. Finalists will be paid $400 for their proposals and will present virtually to the selection committee. One artist or artist team will be selected to move forward and develop their design.
Applications must include: a letter of interest (400 words maximum) explaining interest in working with the Fire Department; a CV/resume (2-page limit); 5 digital images of relevant completed artwork with optional videos (up to 5) if essential to understanding the work; and a media script with short descriptions of each artwork including project budget, location, and artwork intent (100 words per artwork maximum). Submissions will only be accepted at callforentry.org. Contact Laramie Public Art Coalition at [email protected] with questions. Installation is preferred by spring or summer 2022.
