About This Call
The City of Hillsboro, Oregon, eighteen miles west of Portland, seeks a qualified artist or artist team to create an original outdoor work in Rood Bridge Park, a beautifully landscaped and highly used 60-acre park on the north bank of the Tualatin River. The project site is a lawn area with expansive views of rolling terrain and scenic stone bridges.
The goal is to create a gathering place that takes advantage of these views and could be a shelter, seating area, or sculpture in the landscape. The work should create a more intimate and contemplative counterpoint to the active picnic shelters and play areas nearby, while being welcoming and accessible to all. Budget: $100,000.
Eligibility is open to artists in North America and British Columbia with prior public art experience. There is no application fee. Applications must include an artist statement (not exceeding 1000 characters), up to 10 digital images (1920 x 1920 pixels) of relevant artwork, and a current resume (not exceeding 2 pages per artist or team member). Selection criteria include artistic excellence, experience with projects of similar budget and scale, and past projects demonstrating durability, safety, and ease of maintenance in outdoor locations. Preliminary schedule: Semi-finalists selected May 2017, site visit May/June 2017, design proposal presentation July/August 2017, artwork completion Summer/Fall 2018. Contact: Valerie Otani, Public Art Program Supervisor, 503-615-3489, [email protected].
