About This Call

REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS: City of Hayward 21st Century Library and Community Learning Center

Beth Jones Art Consultant invites artists residing in Alameda and Contra Costa counties (with extra consideration given to Hayward area artists) to submit qualifications for this project. The City of Hayward is undertaking the design and construction of a state-of-the-art 21st Century Library & Community Learning Center facility and the restoration of a historic civic plaza/arboretum. The project includes construction of a modern, three-level, 58,000 square foot central library facility; significant streetscape modifications; and restoration of a historic civic plaza and arboretum. The facility and plaza will be energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable to meet or exceed LEED Platinum certification standards, with photovoltaic panels to achieve Net Zero Energy certification. The principal project architect is Noll + Tam Architects, with landscape design by RHAA Landscape Architecture + Planning. Groundbreaking took place in October 2015, with projected completion in late 2017.

The art program includes four site-specific commissions already awarded and underway, as well as significant and varied artwork sited throughout the building. This includes opportunity for two outdoor sculpture sites and a large interior custom wall graphic. Artists of all media—painters, printmakers, ceramicists, photographers, sculptors, textile, mixed media, or digital artists—are invited to submit.

Eligibility: Working artists residing in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. Selection criteria include innovation, quality of craftsmanship, creativity, broad and globally inspired perspectives, life-affirming work, and skillful use of chosen medium. The selection panel will consist of the project team and community representatives from the Hayward Library Commission, Friends of the Hayward Library, and Chabot College. RFQ materials must be submitted digitally by email to [email protected] with cc to [email protected]. Include 10 digital images of completed artworks with an image list and gallery pricing, an artist statement regarding general approach to making art, and current resume/CV. Put "RFQ Hayward Library" in the subject line. RFQ Deadline: Friday, July 8, 2016.
