City of Golden: Hwy 93 Entryway Project

The City of Golden seeks public art for the Hwy 93 Entryway Project, located on the west side of Colorado State Highway 93, approximately 1,600 feet north of Pine Ridge Road on city-owned property. The installation site is approximately 50 feet from the southbound lane of the highway. Due to the high-speed, auto-oriented highway location, the city is seeking a highly visible and impressive statement of entry, ideally visible by both northbound and southbound traffic.

The artwork should be a prominent, welcoming, and visually impactful enhancement to the entryway that appeals to a broad range of people and is uplifting and stimulating to the spirit, intellect, and physical senses. Artistic creativity and interpretation that speaks to Golden's heritage and natural setting is encouraged. Preference will be given to art that is highly visible and visually impactful, and to works that represent one or more of the core values articulated in the Golden Vision 2030 plan, including accessibility, outdoor activity, safe neighborhoods, local business support, community amenities, history and culture, family-friendliness, neighborliness, community sense, and volunteerism.

The call is open to all artists and artist teams 18 years and older; experience creating public art is preferred. Artwork will be selected based on creativity, artistic merit, technical proficiency, relationship to the site and criteria, long-term maintenance, durability, and public safety. The project budget does not exceed $50,000, including concept design, fabrication, artist fee, travel, installation, and all other project-related expenses. Work samples should include a minimum of 5 and maximum of 20 images, with up to 2 audio files and up to 2 video files permitted.
