City of Golden: Clear Creek Sidewalk Medallions

The City of Golden seeks artists to design twelve 2' x 2' decorative diamond-shaped medallions for a sidewalk south of the Golden Public Library parking lot at 1019 Tenth Street, Golden, Colorado 80401. The medallions will replace concrete placeholders currently embedded in the sidewalk.

This collaborative project with Golden Public Library features the theme "River of Knowledge." Artistic content should promote books and literacy while incorporating the acquisition of knowledge and the vitality and beauty of the surrounding Clear Creek area. Applicants should avoid direct quotes from books or about libraries. All mediums will be considered, with special attention given to durability and maintenance due to heavy foot and bike traffic on the walkway.

The call is open to all artists and artist teams 18 years and older residing in Colorado. Experience creating public art is preferred. Artwork will be selected based on creativity, artistic merit, technical proficiency, relationship to the theme and site, and long-term maintenance, durability, and public safety concerns. The project budget is $11,000 including concept design, fabrication, artist fee, travel, installation, and all other project-related expenses. The selected artist will work alongside the City of Golden Public Works Department with art installation.

Applications must include at least four images or drawings of the proposed artwork with artist name, medium, and artwork title; at least three images of past work; a letter of interest describing interest in the project; a current artist resume emphasizing public art projects or related art experiences with budget amounts; a timeline for art development and installation; and an estimated budget for project fabrication, installation, and artist's fee.
