About This Call

The City of Gladstone seeks to commission permanent public art for Oak Grove Park, a 17-acre park located at NE 76th St. and N. Troost. The park features a playground, sand volleyball court, two picnic shelters, picnic areas, a drinking fountain, restrooms, and a 1/2 mile walking trail. The park serves as the home for Gladstone Theatre in the Park, which performs two shows annually. Exterior sculptural artwork is best suited within the designated site area. Artwork should be site-responsive and consider inclusivity, durability, and maintenance.

The all-inclusive budget is $50,000, which includes supplies, labor, fabrication, travel, shipping, artist fees, and installation. A shortlist of candidates will be selected from RFQ submittals and asked to develop a proposal and present it to the City of Gladstone Art Commission. A $1,000 proposal honorarium will be awarded to each semi-finalist in the RFP phase to create an artwork proposal in addition to the allotted $50,000 budget. The selection panel may include members of the Gladstone Arts Commission, Gladstone Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts, art professionals, citizen project representatives, design professionals, and City staff. Gladstone City Council makes the final decision to commission the artwork as recommended by the Arts Commission.

Applications must be submitted through CallforEntry.org by 11:59 PM Mountain Time on September 29, 2023. Applicants must submit an artist statement/letter of interest, professional resume/CV, up to 10 images of related past work (or video clips up to three minutes), and three professional references with current contact information. The opportunity is open to all professional artists who can demonstrate proof of completed past projects of this scale, work effectively within the project timeline, and collaborate with the City and stakeholder team. Estimated project completion and installation is June 2024, with dedication of completed artwork on June 29, 2024.
