About This Call
The City of El Paso Public Art Program seeks to commission three professional artists or artist teams to design, fabricate, and install site-integrated artwork for the El Paso AAA Baseball Stadium. This call is open to local artists or artist teams living in El Paso, Texas only. The total project budget is $150,000 and must cover all design fees, travel expenses, materials, fabrication costs, insurance, engineering, shipping, and installation.
Artists are encouraged to consider several areas including the main entry plaza and create lively and inviting public spaces for day and night viewing. The project is open to any media appropriate to the site and climate, with innovative use of water, lighting, and paving materials invited. Selected artists must have previous public art and design team experience and an understanding of public and community interaction. Artists will work closely with the design team to generate three artwork proposals, conduct site research, prepare presentations to stakeholders, participate in meetings, create engineer-approved construction documents, and fabricate, transport, and install the artwork(s).
Submission deadline is January 21, 2013 at 5:00 PM. Applications must be submitted through the CAFÉ online application system and include a letter of interest, current resume, and six images of completed past artworks with specifications (title, dimensions, medium, year, three-sentence description, and insurance value). Artist teams must submit a resume for each member and designate a lead artist. Selection will be based on original vision and creativity, technical competence, experience in public art and working with architects and engineers, communication skills, and availability.
